Preliminary written entrance (screening) examination
The preliminary written entrance paper for the Uttrakhand judiciary exam will be divided into two main parts. The first part will be containing 50 marks, and the second part will have 150 marks. There shall be an objective type test on the following subjects-
Part 1 (General knowledge)
This part will be including the day to day happenings around the country and in the world, particularly in the legal spheres. The questions may relate to international law, neutrality, recent legislation pronouncement, particularly the Indian constitution, law and development, and legal aspects, but it wouldn’t be limited to this only.
Part 2 (Acts and laws)
The second part of the Uttrakhand judiciary syllabus will consist of the acts and laws such as the transfer of properties act, Principle of Hindu laws and principles of Muslim laws, Evidence act, Code of criminal procedure, Indian Penal code, and the Civil Procedure Code.
For the main examination and viva voce examination
The exam will be including the following subjects. The subjects will carry the number of marks shown against it-
- The Present Day- 150 marks
- Language- 100 marks
- Law: Paper 1- Substantive law- 200 marks
- Law: Paper 2- Evidence and procedure- 200 marks
- Law: Paper 3- Revenue and criminal- 200 marks
- For basic knowledge of the computer operation practical examination- 100 marks
- Viva voce- 100 marks
This paper is specially designed to test the candidate’s knowledge of the reaction to what’s happening in India and the world generally in the present day. Questions, the answers to which they should be in essay form, will relate mainly to the jurisprudence, international law, neutrality, recent legislation, particularly the Indian constitutional law, developments, legal aspects, etc.
- A passage in the English will be set, and the candidate shall be required to translate that into the simple language spoken in the courts, using the Devanagari script- 30 marks.
- Likewise, a Hindi passage will be required to be translated into ordinary English language- 30 marks.
- English precise writing- 40 marks
Law paper 1
This will cover questions from The law of contracts, The law of partnership, The law concerning casements and torts, the law relating to property transfer, Hindu law and Mohammedan law, etc.
Law paper 2
This will be covering the Law of Evidence, The criminal procedure code, including the principles of pleading. The question set will relate mainly to the practical matters, for example, the framing of charges and issues, the methods of dealing with evidence of a witness, the writing of judgment, and the conduct of cases generally but won’t be restricted them.
Law paper 3
UP Zamindari abolition and Land reforms act (as applicable in Uttrakhand) and Indian Penal Code
For the basic knowledge of the computer operation practical examination
Questions are made on Microsoft Windows operating system and Microsoft office. Only a very few questions will be asked from Windows and the internet, MS Word, MS Access, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint.
The questions that might be put to the candidate would not necessarily be of an academic or legal nature. The candidate’s suitability for employment will be tested concerning his record at School, college, university, personality, address, and physique.
